TVS Motor Company has launched an updated-and-improved version of its beloved streetfighter, the Apache RTR 160, aiming for brokers such as KTM in the highly-competitive 150-160cc category. With aggressive pricing and upgraded features, the new Apache RTR 160 is seemingly targeting the racing fraternal on one hand and the daily commuter on the other.
Aggressive Pricing Forfeit
Newly positioned by TVS, the new Apache RTR 160 competes very well with prices starting at just over ₹1.24 lakh (ex-showroom); thus, it has made itself more competitive with the likes of KTM Duke 125. It willingly undercut its KTM counterpart in price in return for such a stylishly painted package, with a board full of performance and technology. The motorcycle will be obtainable in multiple variants, such as disc-brake and drum-brake variants, so buyers can choose depending on their preference and budget.
Upgrades to the Engine and Performance
The Apache RTR 160 still carries a single-cylinder 159.7cc air-cooled engine, now compliant with the latest BS6 Phase 2 norms. It churns out 16.04 PS of power and 13.85 Nm of torque through a 5-speed gearbox. The new lowspeed tech called Glide Through Traffic (GTT) promises smoother lowspeed performance, making it an ideal chariot for the urban setting.
New Features and Design Enhancements
TVS has added few cosmetic and functional upgrades to keep the Apache RTR 160 fit and modern. It currently has a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling turn-by-turn navigation, call alert/SMS, and ride analytics through the SmartXonnect app. It continues to be styled sharp and sporty, thanks to new graphics and LED headlamps, plus a stance that basically shouts “I’m ready to race!”.
The Competitive Relationship with KTM and the Road Ahead
Now, the rather aggressive update may throw the entry-level performance segment fighting zone into a frenzy with KTM on one side and TVS on the other. While the Apache RTR 160 cannot sport the list of sorts when it comes to its overt-one power relations with KTM’s bikes, it stands in firm opposition owing to a mixture of performance, practicality, and cheapness, thus being a strong option for those seeking a sporty yet cheap purchase.
In India, with the launch of the updated Apache RTR 160, TVS would not leave any doubt about trying and enticing young riders into the performance arena.
